tDCS for Migraine Headache

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) both prevents migraine headaches and terminates acute migraine attacks. tDCS significantly reduces the number of migraines, duration of attacks and the intensity of pain, without any adverse or side effects. tDCS is non-invasive, painless and has no sedating side effects. It is effective when medications and trigeminal nerve stimulation are inadequate. tDCS  reduces the cortical hyper-excitability and strengthens the deficient inhibitory processes of migraineurs. tDCS also provides relief for chronic daily headaches and post-traumatic headaches.

tDCS targets the source of migraine, the cortical hyper-excitability, unlike trigeminal or occipital nerve stimulation which produce only secondary effects on the brain. tDCS is more effective, more affordable and safer than experimental surgical procedures.
