First report of tDCS treatment for autism

In a case report, 10 20-minute consecutive daily sessions of cathodal tDCS to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex resulted in a 30% reduction of the ABC (Aberrant Behavior Checklist) subscale for irritability, 40% reduction for withdrawal and 58% reduction for hyperactivity and lack of compliance in a 26 year old autistic patient. These improvements persisted for 3 months. tDCS may provide crucial support for autism rehabilitation programs.
